Journalist writting practice

1st person narration – Mild taboo, youth orientated slang, a north eastern feel
I used to love shopping online, I could never be arsed to go down the town to get stuff when I could save the hassle, just sit and do it at home. I didn’t give a shit about putting my bank details into websites really because if I saw something I liked I wouldn’t think anything of it and I would automatically just order it. Me mam was online shopping though and someone stole her identity and stole all of her money and details I mean she is hardly computer pro but she should have known that people don’t give away huge TV’s for free. What kind of knob head would steal someone’s money and think that no one cared and they wouldn’t get found out, Stupid.
This is the use of ‘I’ and talking about you. They usually use this if they want an article to be personal and first person is usually quite opinionated. It is also come across as quite informal and subjective, usually quite revealing. It is the most common form of narration.

3rd person narration – Very formal
Most people shop online now due to it being easier and less hassle than going and buying products from stores, which is bad news for the stores, but good news for identity thieves. Many people when they put all their bank details into online stores don’t think about the risks if identity theft and for some of the unfortunate people that do get their identity stolen, they wish they were more careful when shopping online. There are many cases of this and people just don’t seem to think of how serious it could be.
No use of ‘I’ or ‘you’ 3rd person uses e.g. ‘many people’ and is used to get a point across. Third person is often used in newspapers as it is very formal and factual. It seems more reliable and can seem less opinionated and more objective.

2nd person narration – Extreme taboo, much older (30+)
Fucking people these days. They think that they can fuck about taking your money and stealing your identity well it’s seriously not on. The cunts can fuck right off. Can’t believe them bastards get away with stealing peoples fucking stole money. How the hell I am going to pay next month’s rent is a fucking mystery. But what can you do about it? Yeah, shit all. Whoever stole my money and is stopping my kids from eating is going to have my fist in between their eyes. No thieving sketty little prick is ever going to steal your money or mine ever again.
The use of ‘you’ and creates a direct approach. It includes the reader and can feel very commanding and aggressive also it can bring energy to a text so because of this it is the least common form of narration.

Poses

This photo pose is a frame shot. They usually use this shit so it can tell you more about the picture and can sometimes tell a story. The fact that he is sat at the top of the stairs and he is in the top third of the picture also gives him power and he is sat in a manly way.

This is an off centre shot. You usually use this shot to make someone look powerful and distant. By making the model look away it gives a sense of calm. This also works with the rule of thirds as he is in the first third, vertically and his face is in the tiop third of the picture giving him power. I think that this picture would have looked professional if i had him in focus and the background blurred.

This photo gives a sense of rebelion because he is looking straight at the camera with the camera tilting up which can make him look powerful and also quite intimidating. He looks masculine because he has his hands in his pockets with his legs slightly apart. To improve this picture i would have got the whole of him in the shot.

Light and darkness as well as motion can effect the type of picture you get, you can use reflectors to change the effect you get with lighting. The rule of thirds needs to be thought about when taking the picture as it can effect what message you are trying to get across.

Shutter speed

Shutter speed affects how fast a picture is taken. It determines the exposure time and is proportional to the exposure time, or duration of light reaching the film or image sensor.  You use faster and slower shutter speeds to determine what the picture turns out like. The smaller the number on the shutter speed the less blurred the picture comes out. For example; the speed that a car moves you would need a shutter speed of 1/2000 whereas because a person walks slower you would only need a shutter speed of 1/250.

The shutter speed on this picture is 1/1500. I think on this picture that outcome was good because everything is in focus and the section I wanted to draw attention to is in the middle. I think if i were to try this picture again I would do it on a lower shutter speed to see what it turned out like.

This image was taken on shutter speed 1/2000. This is the correct shutter speed for the car but i should have taken time to adjust the focal ring of my camera as the picture is out of focus and if i were to retake this picture I would have done that and also tried it on a bit of a higher shutter speed to see if i had a more focussed picture.

Introductory Paragraphs - Magazine Articles

The introduction to a magazine article is vital. The introduction to a magazine gives the first impression of what the rest of the piece is going to be like so this needs to be interesting and well written for the reader to want to read on. Creating a good introduction can make the whole text and give people a feel of what type of intro it is going to be and there are 7 types of intro’s you can use.
Identity theft
Shock Horror Intro
Imagine if you were killed because of identity theft. Imagine if you were just innocently getting your weekly grocery shopping online to not even eat any of the products because you’re dead. You have been shopping online for years without even thinking about identity theft, but now receiving emails from retailers you never signed up for. You don’t care though because it’s just junk mail that everyone receives but is it? You could end up dead like old George did because you don’t know the signs of identity theft. George got his home broken into and ended up dying from a stab wound.
Quote Intro
‘A thief could retrieve these applications, fill them out, and get a new credit card in your name.’ Do not give all your details away to sites without knowing the site is secure because all your identity could be stolen if a site is not genuine. So many people make the mistake of doing this and giving their details away to anyone but you could end up one of them unfortunate people that don’t have their identity to themselves anymore.
The quote intro is very good for making it seem like it has other opinions as well as the journalist’s opinion.
Question Intro
Are you the type to sit at home and buy your clothes and give all your details to every website?  Do you want to be the next victim of identity theft?
Many people believe that all sites are safe but it’s not the case. Identity thefts can get your details so easily and quickly if you are not careful. And you don’t want to be their next victim do you?

Vampire Tutorial

To make this woman a vampire i started off by zooming in on her teeth to make it easier to work with them. I then clicked on the Magnetic Lasso Tool and drew around the teeth. I then changed the feather to 1 Pixel and right clicked and clicked on Layer Via copy. After that i went to the top of the page and clicked edit then transform and then warp. I could then pull the tooth around to make it longer to make it look like a vampire tooth. I then did exactly the same to the other tooth.

To change the face colour i clicked the sponge tool and changed the mode to desaturate and then the flow to 75%. I then coloured in the face and the more you went over the same section the more of a blue colour you ended up with. To colour in the lips i clicked on the burn tool and the range to shadows and the exposure to 10%. I also put this shadow on the eyes to make them darker. To make the eyes black I clicked the brush tool and got a normal brush, i changed the colour to black and put that on the eyes to give it more effect.

Healing brush tool - Spots

Before                                                                                     After

I started to photoshop this image first by creating a new layer on my page and then clicking all layers at the top of the page. I then clicked on the healing brush tool and when i had that i clicked the alt button and right clicked on a piece of skin that was clear which got a section of skin that i could then put over the spots and blemishes. I then kept pressing alt and right clicking when the skin tone changed.
