Magazine DPS finished

After that I did the same with all my other pictures, I dragged them into this document from Photoshop and made the graphics box big enough to fit them in by clicking the black arrow and then underneath clicking the white arrow to move the picture around in the graphics box and rotate it to the direction in which I wanted it facing. I added the black boxes by inserting a box and clicking the colour section on the righthand side of the page to change the colour to black. I then added a text box on top so that I could insert my text into the black boxes and also rotated them to make them fit correctly. I decided to add another red line, but on the bottom of my page so I clicked the shape tool to add the shape and then clicked the colour palet to change the colour to red. I added the page number by creating a box and changing the colour to black and added a text box on top to add the number and also the writting at the side and just highlighted the number and clicked the colour palet to make it grey.

Magazine DPS progress

First of all  I havd to check the dimentions of the page so that it was the correct size compared to the magazine I analysed. I then added the size I wanted my columns to be in mm and added where I wanted them possitioned on my page. After entering all that it came up with my page with my columns on it so I then added margins so tha everything is in the correct place and everything is in line. I had to edit my picture on Photoshop so that it was completely white when I added it to my DPS. I dragged it over from Photoshop to InDesign and then made it the correct size. I added the headline "Need to make sure I go on a secure website next time!" by creating a text box and entering my text into it. I then possitioned it where I wanted it to be and changed the font, size and colour to how I wanted it. I did the same with the text underneath and the text that says "exclusive interview of the week". After that I added the line across the top of the page by creating a box and then colouring it red. I then creataed another box that I coloured Black and put at the top of my columns. I then added a text box over the top where I wrote that section of text and changed the colour to white so it stood out on top of the black. I then inserted my article and interview into my columns and clicked the plus sign in the bottom right hand corner, by doing that when I clicked the next column the text carried on into that one. I then created a box and coloured it grey to put my facts in. I created another box and just left it white so that I could later put my images and text in. I then copied and pasted that 4 more times so that they were all exactly the same size and I then rotated them by clicking the rotation box just above the box to turn them onto different angles. I created a text box to add my text to the grey box and then highlighted the seperate sections to get them different colours. I then opened my image in Photoshop and dragged it into this document and resized it and rotated it so that it fit in the white box. I had to alter the graphics box also so that the image was shown. I added a text box to put my text into.

Magazine front cover finished

Afer having all the basics on my front cover I started to present it on a way that looked like the magazine I analysed. I changed it around a bit and decided that I would have the quote in the bottom corner so I moved it there and changed the colour to black. I also moved the box that says "Olivia tells her story" To the bottom corner by just moving it there using the black arrow tool. I then added another sub header by inserting a text box and adding it on the page where I wanted it to be and coloured it grey to stand out. I made the padlock bigger by clicking on the layer and so that it changed the width aswell as the height I clickes the shift button whilst making it bigger. Then I put it to the top of the page. I then wrote "Watch out" Underneath it by adding another text box and writting in it and then changing the font and the colour by clicking on the colour button and then clicking a colour I had already chosen so that all the sections were the same colour. I did the same with the section of text undeneath. I then organised, resized and moved my pictures so that they looked good by using the black arrow tool to move them around. I added the question marks in by creating a text box and changing the font and colour. I then arranged them in layers so that some of them were behind the pictures and some were infront for effect.

Magazine front cover progress

This is my front cover half way through the process of designing I started by inserting my picture onto photoshop to get the basic layout for my magazine. I then enlarged it to make it the correct size and moved it to the position to which I wanted it on my page. I then inserted the side column down the right hand side by creating a box and colouring it grey. I put the red line down the ede by creating a line and changing the colour to red. I inserted my title by creating a text box and placing it where I wanted it on my page and changed the font and colour to how I wanted it.I did that also with my sub header. I then got the pictures of the barcode, credit card, laptop and padlock and opened them up as another document in photoshop seperately so that I could use the magnetic lasso tool to cut out my picture so that I then could use the black arrow tool to drag it onto my front cover. I added a box to the top of the page by inserting a box and making the outline wider and then inserted a text box so that I could then put in the writting. With all of the writting on that page I clicked "fx" so that I could give them a shadow and an outline to make them stand out. I added the date and issue above the writting by inserting another little text box and then made it the correct size.

Magazine progress - Photo's

For all of the pictures I featured on the Magazine front cover I had to upload them into Photoshop to edit them to get rid of the orange tinge the lighting created when taking my photo's. I first autocoloured them to make them brighter and then i altered the brightness and contrast and hue and saturation. I then had to highlight the background as it was stilll a bit orange and then checked to see if the picture looked good and wasn't to bright or dull.

In Design experiment

To make a double page spread i started by opening up In Design. I then went on to measure the lengths and widths of all the elements of the double page spread that I was using as a template and then used then on my double page spread to get exact measurements.I then went on to create a text box's and put text in them. I edited the text to create the same effect as in the magazine by changing the font and colour and adding italics. To create the pink text box I had to create the box and then put an effect on it to make the colour fade from pink to white. To add the picture onto the right handside page I had to open it as a picture and then use the black arrow tool to add it to the DPS.To get the text into the columns I had to create the columns before I started to design this page and then had to put it on a setting where the columns interlinked so that I could carry on the text throughout the different columns. I then put the title on by creating text boxes and putting it in the font and colour I needed.

Journalist writting practice

1st person narration – Mild taboo, youth orientated slang, a north eastern feel
I used to love shopping online, I could never be arsed to go down the town to get stuff when I could save the hassle, just sit and do it at home. I didn’t give a shit about putting my bank details into websites really because if I saw something I liked I wouldn’t think anything of it and I would automatically just order it. Me mam was online shopping though and someone stole her identity and stole all of her money and details I mean she is hardly computer pro but she should have known that people don’t give away huge TV’s for free. What kind of knob head would steal someone’s money and think that no one cared and they wouldn’t get found out, Stupid.
This is the use of ‘I’ and talking about you. They usually use this if they want an article to be personal and first person is usually quite opinionated. It is also come across as quite informal and subjective, usually quite revealing. It is the most common form of narration.

3rd person narration – Very formal
Most people shop online now due to it being easier and less hassle than going and buying products from stores, which is bad news for the stores, but good news for identity thieves. Many people when they put all their bank details into online stores don’t think about the risks if identity theft and for some of the unfortunate people that do get their identity stolen, they wish they were more careful when shopping online. There are many cases of this and people just don’t seem to think of how serious it could be.
No use of ‘I’ or ‘you’ 3rd person uses e.g. ‘many people’ and is used to get a point across. Third person is often used in newspapers as it is very formal and factual. It seems more reliable and can seem less opinionated and more objective.

2nd person narration – Extreme taboo, much older (30+)
Fucking people these days. They think that they can fuck about taking your money and stealing your identity well it’s seriously not on. The cunts can fuck right off. Can’t believe them bastards get away with stealing peoples fucking stole money. How the hell I am going to pay next month’s rent is a fucking mystery. But what can you do about it? Yeah, shit all. Whoever stole my money and is stopping my kids from eating is going to have my fist in between their eyes. No thieving sketty little prick is ever going to steal your money or mine ever again.
The use of ‘you’ and creates a direct approach. It includes the reader and can feel very commanding and aggressive also it can bring energy to a text so because of this it is the least common form of narration.
